The Girl

Nursery rhymes
And little girl smiles
Messy hair
All a tangle

Stuffy noses
Stubbed toeses
A gap toothed grin
Tooth fairy time

She moves me to anger
Moves me to joy
Will move me to terror
When she brings home a boy

Little girl hands
Little girl knees
Covered in scrapes
Playing is hard work

I miss her laughter
I miss her hugs
I miss her playtime bathtime bedtime

I miss her

Tumbledown

Tumbledown life and times
We got the 21st century blues
Crawling on out
Sliding on in
We gonna jump and jive
To the electric pulse
Of the world
Thrumming at our greedy
Little fingertips
With blue-white sparks
Popping from our electrode eyes

Information age
Traffic rage
The whole damn country's a gilded cage
And we keep singing our song
Going along
To the drumbeats of the
Tumbledown life and times

With thunderbird eyes.

A quality of ignorance,
Self-deception may be
Necessary to the poet's survival
